I apologize to all- I know this is a second post. I went to read some articles from the NYT, and ran across their map of the senate election. This is a terrific contrast with the RealClearPolitics map. The link are here-
NYT- http://elections.nytimes.com/2010/senate
RCP- http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/2010_elections_senate_map.html
The differences in emphasis are so stunning as to represent different realities. Please, please tell me, NYT, that you don't believe Pennsylvania is leaning democratic. There has not been a poll showing a Specter lead for months. Toomey has an average lead of 8-10 points. You cannot be serious in rating Nevada a toss-up- Reid has been behind by 15 points!
The NYT map looks like political theater to me, an attempt to convince democrats who wish to believe it that they are doing right and well. The most democratically inclined pollsters, like Quinnipiac, show Nevada as a likely republican win, and also Pennsylvania, and those are only the most egregious examples.
Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make insane. One of the hallmarks of folly is a selective reading of data to favor your own preformed views. Not only is that folly, it isn't news.
